St Johns Anglican Church required a flyer to work both as a promotional artwork to encourage men to attend a weekend conference, and as a form to receive responses from interested people. The brief included a sketched mockup of the layout, as the client had a specific objective, and knew exactly how they wanted to present the information. Details down to the subject of photographs for each topic were included. The use of photographs to limit the use of words was an impotant consideration for this task.

Having such strong direction helped this job move quite quickly. The flyer was to be folded into three sections, which meant that it was to be very structured. The tight brief meant we could get the dynamics of the layout together and then spend time on the finer details of the project. To compliment previous work created for St Johns, similar background elements were included, but with a masculine feel, through use of earthy organic tones. The soft background helped the clean bold photographs maintain a strong impact, leaping off the page.

This is a good example of when guidance from the client can help the job look polished without restricting the designers freedom too much.
