Intranet and Extranet - Outcompeting the Competitors


Our client need a system to "outcompete the competitors". It required a system that would lower it's own operating costs by delivering what customers need, just when they need it. Further, a staff Intranet was required to provide enhanced, web-based information anytime, anywhere for the MD, the sales reps and the support staff.

We were therefore required to build a system that permits:

  1. customers to:
    1. login securely
    2. view stock on hand in each state
    3. view ETA's for stock on backorder
    4. view negotiated pricing
    5. build orders
    6. place orders through e-commerce system within credit limits, else credit card
    7. calculate freight accurately to any postcode in Australia via multiple carriers
    8. View invoices online
    9. View statements online
    10. View backorders online
    11. Search for serial numbers purchased
    12. Request returns based on serial numbers cross-checked against invoice numbers

  2. staff to:
    1. View extended price and availability information
    2. View upcoming shipments
    3. Update customer records
    4. Create reminders for customers
    5. Records notes against customers
    6. Send customers customised price lists in the following formats:
      1. Excel
      2. PDF
      3. DBF
      4. CSV
      5. MDB (MS Access)
        1. Any fields, iIn any field order
    7. Search invoice records
    8. Search serial numbers
    9. Search customer order data
    10. Email statements
    11. Email invoices
    12. Generate barcoded labels

Developed over a number of years, this particular Intranet and Extranet was created on an extremely scalable and solid foundation, including Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and replication from existing legacy databses (read: the accounting system).

The key is thorough planning and a vision to create a staff and customer centric system that "outcompetes the competitors".

Both staff and customers securely access their control panels on a daily basis retrieving information and obtaining service that would otherwise have resulted in an interruption to a fellow staff member or a phone call.

Delivering just what is needed, when it is needed allows our client to "outcompete the competitors".
